The theme from the motion picture "Jurassic Park" was composed by one of the greatest American composers of all time, John Williams. This Eric Wilson arrangement features long, flowing and sustained phrases that will be great instructional tools for a developing band. Of course, the catchy melody and easy familiarity will help make this classic a concert-time success. Estimated Performance Time: 2:30 Technical Notes: The oboe part is labeled "Oboe (Optional)". The French horn part is labeled "F Horn (Optional)". The percussion 1 part is labeled "Percussion 1 (Snare Drum, Bass Drum)". The percussion 2 part is labeled "Percussion 2 (Triangle, Suspended Cymbal, Crash Cymbal)". The arranger has added the note "Any one or more of these instruments will provide an adequate bass part." These instruments are: B Flat bass clarinet, B Flat tenor saxophone, E Flat baritone saxophone, trombone/baritone B.C./bassoon, baritone T.C., and tuba. This piece has a unison bass line. Teaching aids for the director: This arrangement uses the "main" theme from the motion picture "Jurassic Park", composed by John Williams. Characteristic to this music is the long flowing and sustained phrasing as well as occasional lighter and more delicate sections with reduced instrumentation. The first statement of the melody is with woodwinds only. You will notice that the alto sax part is divided for much of this arrangement. Be sure to balance the woodwind section carefully so that all parts are heard. At measure 9, encourage the brass section to play in a flowing and connected style. Throughout this arrangement, emphasize good tone production and make sure the sound is always under control. Even in loud sections, the tone should never sound distorted or forced. Be sure to take special notice of the key change at measure 38. Also, make sure all players observe slur indications as well as dynamic markings throughout the arrangement. Composer(s): This piece was composed by John Williams. Arranger(s): This piece was arranged by Eric Wilson. Publisher: This piece was published by Hal Leonard Corporation. Series: This piece is part of the series "Hal Leonard Discovery Plus Band Series".
